Data protection: A last defense for vulnerable individuals in migration management.

The European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) published an Opinion on May 28, 2025. This Opinion concerns the Proposal for a Regulation establishing a common system for the return of third-country nationals staying illegally within the EU. The primary objective of this Proposal is to ensure the effective return and re-admission of third-country nationals who are illegally present in the European Union. This is to be achieved by providing Member States with simplified and common rules regarding these processes.
